I have recently joined on advisorkhoj and wanted a review of my current MF Portfolio. I am retiring in next 8 months and would like to have good tax free income (yield) on a monthly basis. Am not considering SWP as yet?
The portfolio is as under:
Thanks for writing to us for reviewing your mutual fund portfolio.
The first suggestion is that you must consolidate your portfolio by reducing the scheme numbers to maximum 5 or 6 as your objective is to get a good tax free income from your investments after 8 months.
While consolidating your investments, you must redeem sectoral funds, for example - Reliance Banking Fund and the asset allocator fund - Kotak Asset Allocator Fund.
Also, you should replace the non-performers from your portfolio. For example - UTI Equity Fund, HDFC Growth Fund and Reliance Vision Fund.
Why you have kept 45% of your assets in liquid funds is not known to us. Maybe you are planning to deploy the same post retirement. You may share your plans with us.
As you want to have tax free income post retirement, you should plan for SWPs from now. You already have 36% of your assets in HDFC Balanced Fund Growth option from which you can plan to start the SWP.
Your two MIP investments are good and they are already in dividend payout mode, therefore, no need to change them.
Rest of the equity funds where you have less than 1% investments can be redeemed and reinvested in 1 or 2 balanced or equity funds (depending upon your risk taking ability) with an objective to draw a regular income through SWP.
Hope the above is helpful to you.
